It's been way too long since I put up a bat pic.

A fine-looking crab spider from the Genus Xysticus (probably Xysticus elegans).

A few more pics from the Picture Rocks area of Pennsylvania

Picture
A species of spider I saw in the tall grass a couple of times, but am unsure what it is.
Picture
A Spotless Lady Beetle (Cycloneda sp.). A very cool little character.
Picture
This was a dandy big American bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus). Only the head is above water. There was a big hatch of midges coming off the stream, thus it was hunting in the water not by the shore.
Picture
Don't know this butterfly with dew on it, but might be a copper. Also can't figure out that shadow on the wing, as it seems like the upper wing in bent over, something I didn't think butterflies could do.

Picture
It's been cold in Pennsylvania, so the spring peepers are still calling. This one from near Picture Rocks, PA.

Nothing too awesome to post today, but a Luna moth is always worthwhile.  Here is one caught in a mist net while I was trying to catch bats.
Picture
A Luna moth (Actius luna) caught in a mist net. It was released unharmed and in fine shape.
Picture
And everyone's favorite insect around this time, a June bug (Phyllophaga sp.)

There is no town near where I took these pics, just farms, scenery and good people.

Picture
The American giant millipede (Narceus americanus)
Picture
This is a nymph stage of a true bug (Hemiptera). It is the assassin bug Zelus luridus, the pale-green assassin bug although I would call it the lurid assassin bug based on its Latin name. Beautiful little thing
Picture
No clue what this caterpillar is, but a fine looking one

Melrose Caverns II

I had a fine idea to separate and post things from Melrose in an orderly fashion.  It's getting all mucked up.  But here are more pics from Melrose.

Picture
This pool had a frog in it, which was "rescued" as unlikely it would survive here. Pics of the frog later.
Picture
A crane fly at night on the property.
Picture
A daddy long-legs (Opilionidae) on the property.
Picture
Tent caterpillars are not really welcome, but they are pretty.

Spent a second weekend at Melrose Caverns.  Some pics to post, but for tonight a couple of passage shots.
Picture
Near the entrance, a number of white formations striping the walls.
Picture
Lots of stal along the main trail.
Picture
Pretty stuff in Melrose Caverns
More from this trip coming up.
