Some beetles

These photos are from Pennsylvania, USA.

The first is a firefly mimic. Fireflies taste bad, so looking like one is a bonus.

A soldier beetle from Pennsylvania, a firefly mimic, from the genus Podabrus, but I am not willing to try for species. Okay, probably Podabrus frater, but that is not for sure.

A flower scarab, from the genus Trichiotinus. Again, a bit of a guess but I think this is Trichiotinus assimilis

So two cool beetles from Pennsylvania and some hopefully accurate IDs

Drones Gone Wild and the Tree of Doom

Back at the end of May and early June, I posted a series of pics about recovering an airplane drone from a most horrible tree in Costa Rica. There is a new, great, video out on the whole deal. It is quite well done, and produced by Guy Van Rentergem, the dude who did all the tree climbing. Really worth watching, and having been there, it was even worse than the video shows.

North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island

This aquarium is worth a visit. A nice set of animals to see and in a friendly environment.
