Bit of wildlife from the Firestone Reserve

Hiking up the trail to do some trail work this morning we found this underfoot...
Picture
An elegant littersnake (Rhadinaea decorate) was spotted after the first two students walked right by it
And coming down the trail later it was all about monkeys

And since I tend to post lots of creepy crawlies, here is a pic of major cuteness
Picture
That little baby monkey peering over mom's back was adorable
Now back to the usual programming...
Picture
One of the bird spiders. I'm thinking this is Sericopelma melanotarsum
And some birds to finish up for now

Andrew Marx and Ahmed Alzahrani are here for a couple days to do some drone mapping of the property.  Today was a test flight which went very well.

A lot of trees to catch a drone in, but everything went smoothly and a perfect landing

First night at the Firestone and had to take at least a little bit of a walk to see what was out there.  A photo software glitch has been fixed and so hopefully for the next week or so I will be able to put up lots of pics.

Of note, I usually try to put identifications with my animal photos, but it is looking like there might not be enough time to do that, at least for now.
Picture
I could have put up a pic of this critter in profile, which would have been more familiar looking. But this really is a praying mantis (nymph stage) from above on a tree with cool bark.
Picture
The only reason I found this stick insect under these leaves is because I saw it fly and land there.
Picture
Ah yes, a frog. I will ID some of the more obvious species, but ones like this I will have to see if I can ID later.
Picture
I like this frog in the colorful and textured bits on the ground. Darn near impossible to see the thing with the naked eye, but the camera really grabbed it.
Picture
It never really stopped raining, so some things had drops of water on them.
And finally for now...  a beautiful spider

Costa Rica, crocodiles

The start to any good trip to the southwest of Costa Rica is incomplete without a stop at the Tarcoles River to check out the American crocodiles that live under the bridge.

Dyke Marsh is on the Potomac looking across as Washington, DC and a great place for a quick little hike.
