 I haven't posted enough macro shots lately, and will try to fix that. Here is a rather attractive slug, not that I really want such in my yard.

A flower garden in a lower level of the Akershus Fortress in Oslo.
 World's End is at the southernmost tip of an island about 120km southwest of Oslo. Lots of history in this area. But just did a short visit, and it rained the whole time
A small gallery of pics has been put up in the Norway stuff.  swimming at Sognsvann Swimming at Sognsvann is, even in the heart of summer, a thing for people who enjoy the cold.
But lots of folks are in the water and enjoying it, so no reason to not jump in. It was 74 degrees today, so air temps were warm. I preferred yesterday, though, with mines and ropework rather than bracingly cold water.  Summer at Sognsvann is mostly about the beach, and of course the fitness bits of walking or running the endless trails as well. But today we hit the Gaustad Iron Mine, plus a pit that was a copper mine back around 1700 or so, and just for fun rigged up a little zip line in the forest.

 The giant troll at the entrance to the mini-golf Lots of interesting stuff over in Ekeberg, and mini-golf is one of those things. There is a troll motif to the course setting, but not so much for the course itself. There are also such things as air hockey tables and even a pinball machine in the "clubhouse." This is alongside a petting zoo kinda place and there are some playgrounds for kids as well. And this is just one little bit of things to do and see in Ekeberg.  Tiny horses in Ekeberg.  Odd wall of Elvis in the "clubhouse."  While mostly there are just tourists in Frogner Park in the summer, it is still worth heading there once in a while anyway.
 Juvenile greylag goose. One of the more famous places around Oslo for birds is Ostensjovannet. I may at some point put up a gallery. For now a few pictures here on the blog.  Juvenile common coot  Mute swan, Canda geese, greylag geese and mallards waiting to be fed.  Juvenile black-headed gull almost ready to fly.  A bee on the burdock.  Berry picking is a tradition in Norway. Every summer/fall legions of people head into the forests to pick the abundant berries. However, there is an easier way. For just 50NOK per kilo, you can pick berries at a farm! We chose the Frogner farm, with a ski jump in the background.  |
