Not so long ago I posted pics of American toads at Lake Burke. Now, there are tadpoles. This is not my finest hour of photography, but here are the toad tadpoles. The old Latin name for these was Bufo americanus, which I still find useful. But the current name is Anaxyrus americanus.

Grand weekends are centered around Grand Caverns, a most worthy show cave in central Virginia. Sometimes we are in Grand Caverns, cleaning up things and keeping this awesome commercial cave healthy and in good shape, and other times we are doing good deeds in the other caves on the property.
This past weekend I had the opportunity to visit Fountain Cave, on the Grand property. I have been in this cave before, but this was the first time I took a camera in the cave. The cave is being re-surveyed and mapped at a high level, something I enjoy doing, but for this trip I just did some solo photographs and wasn't part of the survey. So,here are a few pics of Fountain Cave. Notably, I did all this photography by myself, as others in the cave had other work to do, and thus not the mutli-flash cave photos that make cave pics more interesting. I started at the back and worked toward the entrance. Just a follow up shot when I realized that I probably should include at least one shot of the locks that are so abundant along the canal.
Okay, that was not my best nuthatch pic. I will upgrade such when I get a chance.
Today I got a chance to have a walk on the C&O Canal, after big flooding yesterday. Sadly, the trail out to the Great Falls was closed due to the flooding. A bit of video of the flood is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUMqYm53bz8 Aside from the flood, I got a few pics while on my walk. |
