Back in June of 2012, I did a week-long fishing trip to the Vega Islands in Norway. I published some pics from that trip, but have not done much with some images I took with a second camera.
So here are some Norway pics from the Vega Islands area. And of note, you can see my full gallery of pics from this trip at: http://www.tropicalbats.com/vega-islands.html This is one of many photo galleries in the "places of note" section of this website Difficult Run is a stream that runs to the Potomac River. There are miles of hiking trails along it. Just had a short outing today and here are the pics. Yes, the trail through the National Park bits was closed, so we turned around and hiked upstream. Others ignored the signs and went onward anyway. This guy is hauling his bike around the fence. Hope he got some kind of ticket or something for ignoring federal rules. There is this wonderful bit where you cross the creek on a series of rocks.instead of a bridge. Nice.
White Nose Syndrome is killing a lot of bats. It is a cold-loving fungus and hits the bats during hibernation in caves and mines. Watch this video to start to understand how this fungus is something in much need of study and control
http://www.smithsonianchannel.com/sc/web/show/3374278/killer-in-the-caves Yes, it is a long video, but watch it. Some photos from around our base at the Greenview Lodge during the Gomanontong Caves LiDAR mapping project. This insect was photographed at Mulu National Park in Malaysia, on the island of Borneo,
This is a big cricket and it is cool.
I was planning more Borneo photos, but just had to try out a new filter I got today. No time to get to a good site for playing with this, but I grabbed some photos from a nearby stream. While these practice photos aren't awesome, they show the potential of the new filter to really blur movement while keeping still things sharp.
But first, a baby long-tailed macaque from just behind our base camp at the Greenview Lodge. So many photos, so little time. More tomorrow.
