I generally am behind the camera taking still photos of our cave work on expeditions. But on the trip to the Gomantong Caves of Borneo last summer, Guy van Rentergem got me to talk about several of the biological bits of the caves on video. The ecology of the caves is cool, and here is Guy's latest video production.

I had a chance to fly over the cockpit karst of the Dominican Republic, back around 1999. This is one of the photos. It is an amazing bit of geography and I mapped some caves within it.
But it is quite difficult to adventure into such terrain, and not a simple bit of exploration. I think this aerial view gives a great shot of what the cockpit karst looks like, and probably some idea of how hard it was to work here. The Dominican Republic has a ton of caves. Here is a photo from Cueva Fito Santo. A long time ago, Don McFarlane and I visited the obscure Cueva Nay in the Dominican Republic. Here is a photo I took back then, and have scanned to make it digital.
Sorry for the lack of posts/pics lately, but my server denied my password for some time and then I was away this weekend. Time to get back to the daily pics. Today's feature pics are from this weekend. I only took pics of two things in Butler Cave as it wasn't a photo trip, and then two pics of the evening fun. So let's start with the two cave pics. That beetle is pretty cool, as it is a predator and rarely seen in Butler Cave. It is eyeless and a true cave critter, only found in caves. These millipedes, which I have no identification on, are found wherever there is organic material in the cave. I know, we were in the cave and saw many beautiful things that I should have taken pics of, but as noted, it wasn't a photo trip. But the evening activities included some mild fireworks, mostly smoke bombs, which were a fun way to end the day.
This shot is looking up at the surface from the bottom of a 142-meter deep pit. Pretty awesome stuff in Borneo.
Last night my web server was apparently down, as I could not log in. Here is the pic from Borneo that I was planning to post. My server is still having some troubles so that is all for today.
